How does gravity affect your golf takeaway?

If we get too far away from where gravity is naturally pulling the club, it can get us into trouble the second we start our golf swings..

Let’s look at where it all starts.

A good loaded starting position that will support the start of the swing, it might look like this:

So, it would make sense that the club would sit in about the same place at the start.

Now, what happens if we start working away from gravity?

The club begins to travel inside and off the main target line early.

By halfway up, the club is in big trouble and there’s likely to be an over the top correction to save it on the way down. Instead, here’s how it might look staying with gravity a little longer..

Note the blue line showing an almost vertical arm for quite some time. You want to try to do the same.

If you get things going in the right direction from the beginning of the swing, you’re far more likely to return in good shape too because you haven’t been thrown off by something like a bad pathway that didn’t fully respect gravity.

This will allow you to come right back down and in the slot with your friend gravity making Golf far less painful than it is for most folks.

So there you have it, use gravity during your golf takeaway and certainly use it to check tips, movements and so much more. It makes a wonderful filter to assess the advice you’re getting and find out if it has some gravity to it.
